The ini­tial sit­u­a­tion

Founded in 1928, Andreas Schmid Logis­tik AG is a family-​owned, medium-​sized com­pany based in Gersthofen,Bavaria. The com­pany employs around 1,600 peo­ple. With start-​up devel­op­ment, media rela­tions and recruit­ment, the medium-​sized com­pany pro­vides its cus­tomers with all-​round sup­port.

Until now, the com­pany had been using an old tele­phone sys­tem and a con­tact cen­ter plat­form. Due to the impend­ing end-​of-​service of the sys­tem soft­ware, those respon­si­ble had to look around for an alter­na­tive. Finally, IP Dynam­ics was con­tracted to switch to Microsoft Teams as the new tele­phony solu­tion with a con­nec­tion to the Vox­tron Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Cen­ter (VCC).

The chal­lenge

  • The old tele­phony sys­tem had to be replaced with­out dis­rupt­ing ongo­ing oper­a­tions.
  • A pure cloud solu­tion was not fea­si­ble for tech­ni­cal rea­sons, as too many DECT devices were in use.
  • The planned switch from clas­sic desk phones to head­sets and soft clients led to skep­ti­cism among some employ­ees.

The solu­tion

  • Andreas Schmid and IP Dynam­ics worked together to cre­ate a project plan that detailed all the tasks step by step.
  • To ensure smooth live oper­a­tion dur­ing the project, the first step was to install an Anyn­ode Ses­sion Bor­der Con­troller (SBC) to run the Avaya sys­tem and Microsoft Teams in par­al­lel.
  • This was fol­lowed by the instal­la­tion of the VCC and con­fig­u­ra­tion accord­ing to the customer’s wishes.
  • Since all the pre­req­ui­sites for a smooth migra­tion were in place from that point on, the next step was to set up Direct Rout­ing as well as the Enter­prise Voice func­tion­al­i­ties of Microsoft Teams.
  • By set­ting up the Dynamic Atten­dant soft­ware solu­tion, the full func­tion­al­ity of an atten­dant con­sole was pro­vided.
  • The migra­tion and launch was then han­dled by the cus­tomer itself.
  • In order to pre­pare all employ­ees for the changeover and to reduce con­cerns, an expe­ri­enced trainer from IP Dynam­ics trained indi­vid­ual employ­ees of the Andreas Schmid Group, who in turn passed on their knowl­edge to the rel­e­vant employ­ees.

The result

  • A total of 500 clas­sic tele­phones were exchanged for Microsoft Teams licenses.
  • All employ­ees of the Andreas Schmid Group now use Microsoft Teams as a uni­form tele­phony solu­tion for inter­nal and exter­nal calls.
  • The new Microsoft Teams infra­struc­ture enables location-​independent work­ing and flex­i­ble orga­ni­za­tion of the daily work rou­tine.
  • All uni­fied com­mu­ni­ca­tion func­tions, such as pres­ence dis­play, can be used.
  • The solu­tion can be eas­ily adapted and expanded as needed.
  • The next step for the com­pany will be to out­source the ses­sion bor­der con­trollers, which are cur­rently still run­ning on premises, to the cloud to ensure higher avail­abil­ity.
