The ini­tial solu­tion

Dirk Ross­mann GmbH was founded in 1972 and is the No. 2 drug­store chain in Ger­many. Ross­mann oper­ates in six Euro­pean coun­tries and has 2,531 drug­stores and around 31,000 employ­ees (as of 01/​2012). Ross­mann is the only Ger­man trader that made it into the elite group of the world‘s 50 fastest grow­ing retail com­pa­nies. In the course of the con­struc­tion of a new com­pany head­quar­ters in Burg­wedel, Lower Sax­ony, Ross­mann decided to adapt its own IT and tele­phony infra­struc­ture to the mar­ket con­di­tions with the help of the IT ser­vice provider IP Dynam­ics.

The chal­lenge

• The new 10,000 m² Ross­mann office build­ing needed to accom­mo­date 600 employ­ees and be equipped with mod­ern IP tech­nol­ogy. IP Dynam­ics was entrusted with the prepa­ra­tion and devel­op­ment of the strate­gic migra­tion process from the “old” (dig­i­tal) to the “new” IP world.

The solu­tion

• Ross­manns IT spe­cial­ists and IP Dynam­ics car­ried out the con­fig­u­ra­tion process together and orga­nized train­ing and hand­outs with the goal of the Ross­mann staff being able to han­dle 100% of the daily oper­a­tions.
• The move took place on two week­ends. A total of 700 peo­ple were moved – 600 into the new build­ing, and the remain­der, of course, stay­ing in the old build­ing.
• The fol­low­ing prod­ucts and solu­tions were imple­mented at Ross­mann: Avaya Aura Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Man­ager, Avaya Aura Call Cen­ter Elite with about 30 agents, DIALit CTI, Avaya one-​X Atten­dant oper­a­tor con­sole with 3 oper­a­tor posi­tions in Großburg­wedel, Avaya IP DECT sys­tem for ware­houses in Bergkirchen and Cologne, Avaya Inte­gral 55 as a DECT sys­tem for Großburg­wedel, Avaya Inte­gral in Lands­berg and Kiel, Avaya Busi­ness Call Cen­ter with about 40 agents in Großburg­wedel.

The result

• Karsten Han­neke, one of the respon­si­ble project man­agers at Ross­mann, describes the care­fully planned move as „nearly per­fect“ and was pleas­antly sur­prised that the project was pro­gress­ing well ahead of sched­ule.
• Fol­low­ing the suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of the project, the stor­age facil­i­ties in Bergkirchen and Cologne were equipped with IP solu­tions in a follow-​on project.
