Germany is looking for the beach hockey champion

At this annual and constantly growing event, there was something exciting for every visitor around the two courts on the pier. The sporting highlights were complemented by an attractive supporting program.

A few weeks after the end of the hockey Bundesliga season, both amateur and national players met for the cult tournament on Timmendorfer Strand. True to the motto “hockey stars up close”, the fans got to see a good dozen current and former national and Bundesliga players in the “Nice of the Baltic Sea”, quite a few of whom are decorated with Olympic precious metals or World Cup and European championship medals.

During the tournament, it quickly became apparent that the name “Shinbreakers” was not to be taken seriously literally. Even though the team sponsored by IP Dynamics fought passionately for victory, fairness and fair play were always in the foreground. On Friday, the “Shinbreakers” were able to start the “Kornknacker” against the eventual finalist, but without the slightest chance. Even though the second game went much better, there was also a 1:5 loss against the “Wildpigs”. Well rested and highly motivated, a hard-fought but deserved 3:2 was scored on Saturday. The second game on Saturday unfortunately had to be stopped due to a sudden change in weather. Early on the last day at 8:20 a.m., the “Shinbreakers” won the placement game 3-1 and finished 13th out of a total of 20 teams! The winner of the Beach Hockey DM 2019 was the surprise team “Greece Land” this year. “The tournament was a complete success,” says Jörg Schonhardt, head of organization of the event.

In addition to top-class sport led by experienced Bundesliga referees, the Timmendorfer Kurpark not only had a large children's area but also a third playing field where holidaymakers and guests could try out hockey sticks. Great fun for young and old — all the more so thanks to the wonderful ambiance with sea, lots of sun and music!
