Mud, sea & togetherness

In wind and weather, the IP Dynamics team ventured on a mudflat hike from Cuxhaven to Neuwerk Island. It was a special natural and community experience that colleagues will remember for a long time to come.

An unforgettable team experience in the North
How often do you get the opportunity to hike on the seabed? On the first weekend in August 2025, the time had come: colleagues from all over Germany traveled to the far north to experience an extraordinary adventure together. Because IP Dynamics had invited to the mudflat hike from Cuxhaven to the island of Neuwerk — and 14 brave team members answered the call.
Rain, wind and lots of team spirit
Even the signs made it clear that this would not be an ordinary trip. The weather app announced showers, gusts of wind and even thunderstorms. But colleagues were not deterred by this. With weatherproof clothing, plenty of food and a good dose of anticipation, we set off on the adventure — under the expert guidance of an experienced Wadmill. Her motto: “There is no such thing as bad weather, just wrong clothes. ”
As soon as the sea had retreated and the seabed was exposed, the approximately ten kilometers long hike through the mudflats began under halfway blue skies. The group crossed knee-deep creeks, balanced over slippery areas and marveled at huge oyster beds. Time and again, the Wadden Sea guide took time to share her knowledge and provide exciting insights into the fragile ecosystem of the Wadden Sea National Park.

Arrive, breathe a sigh of relief, be together
Despite the rain — which of course didn't stop completely — the group reached the small island of Neuwerk in the afternoon satisfied and exhausted. The island, which belongs to the city of Hamburg, is just three square kilometers in size and has only around 30 inhabitants. A distinctive lighthouse that is over 700 years old is the island's landmark and at the same time the oldest surviving building in Hamburg. From here you have a breathtaking view and can enjoy the view of the island and the Wadden Sea.
After a refreshment at one of the island restaurants, the excursion group set off on the return journey to Cuxhaven in the evening — but this time by ferry and not on foot. In the meantime, the flood had set in and ensured that Neuwerk was once again completely surrounded by water.
