Esther Pohl is a senior sales manager at IP Dynamics. It celebrated its 10th anniversary last year and has therefore already experienced a lot of things. In an interview, she answers exciting questions.
What was your career so far?
I studied economics at the European Business School in Reutlingen. As part of a semester abroad, I was already able to complete my first internships in the USA and France at that time. After I successfully completed my studies and received my diploma, I started the professional world as a sales and marketing trainee at NCR in Frankfurt. I was able to gain a lot of experience there. I later moved to IBM in Zurich as a sales manager with divisional and management responsibility.
How did you find out about IP Dynamics?
Through personal contact with one of the former managing directors, who asked me whether I could imagine working in a young and up-and-coming company and helping to shape the development of it. After many years working for major American IT companies, I found this exciting and a new challenge, as I was convinced that I could contribute to the success of IPD with my many years of experience in sales at international IT companies.
What does your area of responsibility look like today?
My area of responsibility is very varied and wide-ranging. First and foremost, it is, of course, about acquiring new customers and servicing existing customers. Presentations must be created and held, contract actions must be carried out, but strategic planning with customers is also very important. There are also other tasks such as coordinating the customer and internal resources, forecasting, planning the budget, preparing and calculating offers and managing projects. Last but not least, networking with partners, consultants, manufacturers and customers is also an important part.
What was your biggest challenge with IPD so far and how did you overcome it?
Since I came from the IT industry, I had nothing to do with communication infrastructure, such as IP telephony or contact centers. It was therefore new territory for me and I had to familiarise myself with the technologies and terminologies. I mastered this by asking a lot of questions, listening to colleagues when they reported on experiences in projects and also reading and adapting a lot myself. At IBM, I was responsible for business process management, which involved a wide variety of workflows in process chains, which could be adapted very well to contact centers, where call flows are involved. As a result, I was able to get used to the new subject matter quite quickly and also appear self-confident with customers.
How do you like the corporate culture?
I really like the corporate culture, as there are no traditional hierarchies, as is sometimes the case in large corporations. Anyone can contribute and get involved with a good idea. The teamwork is very distinctive, even in sales, you are not really a lone fighter, but work in a well-functioning team. The innovative strength of the company is another aspect that inspires me about IP Dynamics. I find it very exciting to constantly learn new things and to always be up to date with the latest technological developments.
What makes IP Dynamics unique for you as an employer?
IP Dynamics is unique to me as an employer because the company consists of a great team, but also gives you the opportunity to work independently. In sales, you need certain leeway to make decisions in order to be successful. These are granted by IP Dynamics and you get the appropriate backing from management. The team spirit among colleagues is extremely good, which also contributes to the fact that you enjoy working for IP Dynamics. Last but not least, sales people are always focused on success and, of course, prefer to work with a successful concept, which in this case is the company itself.
Thank you for the exciting insight!
